You lift the spoonful of soup over the bowl and bring your mouth to it, so that anything that falls drops back in the bowl. I have seen other, much younger kids who instinctively can do this. She is bright, physically capable, and able to think critically about complex social issues… but she is not capable of leaning over her bowl/plate when she eats.
